A tarot guide to what comes next
I’ve been missing writing to you!
Hello, and greetings from Gadigal land.
Why was I quiet on the newsletter and blog front for a few years, and why am I back?
Alongside my tarot practice, I was immersing myself in end of life work. In 2021, I reduced my tarot reading availability from four days to three days a week, and in 2023 I reduced it to one day a week. During this time I was working with Life Rites as a funeral celebrant, an after death carer/mortuary worker and holistic funeral director, as well as working as a mortality doula (also known as an end of life doula or death doula). In regards to my mortality doula work, I was interviewed for a couple of articles about my experience supporting my friend and doula client Annie with VAD (Voluntary Assisted Dying). Through all of this tarot remained a deep, full and splendid love of mine.
Over the past couple of months I have found myself circling back to tarot reading for the public with renewed vigour. I have once again opened up three tarot days a week, and as of next week it will be four days. Clients have been sharing with me their relief at finding it easier to book a reading with me, and I must say I’m feeling particularly happy and content to be meeting with the community in this way again!
Being able to connect with a huge cross section of society on a regular basis has placed me back in the groove of getting a feel for what’s occurring right now in our communities, and seeing the archetypal, emotional and spiritual patterns that emerge in a day, week or month as I sit with you and the tarot cards.
And yes! I’m still working as a mortality doula and funeral celebrant. I’ve just recalibrated the balance between this end of life work and my tarot practice.

Tarot card of the moment:
Every week, fortnight and month, there will be a tarot card that comes up for my clients again and again. We are not singular beings, and we are all part of a local and global community. So, it makes sense to me that there will be a tarot archetype that comes to represent more than just the workings of my individual clients’ lives, connecting them to a larger current of life.
Sometimes there will be several archetypes making the rounds, yet one that has made itself very clear of late is Judgement, which is also sometimes called Awakening, Liberation, Aeon and more, depending on what tarot deck you’re gazing upon.
Today I’m looking at Awakening from Herbcrafter’s Tarot by Joanna Powell Colbert & Latisha Guthrie, Judgement from Next World Tarot by Cristy C. Road, and Liberation from the Dark Goddess Tarot by Ellen Lorenzi-Prince.
Herbcrafter’s Tarot’s Awakening says, “Stay with the rituals that hold you to your purpose, those that quieten your heart when the noise of the world gets too strong. Trust in the small everyday moments that have the potential to hold a moment of peace.”
Next World’s Tarot’s Judgement says, “Find ways to show up that keep you connected to what comes after this wild horror we are in where genocide unfolds in realtime, and political leaders make decisions that highlight a profound lack of humanity, and amplify suffering. Despite this, if we can stay in community and lean into mutual aid and deep connection, we may discover how clear life can be when we stop trying to destroy each other.”
Dark Goddess Tarot’s Liberation says, “Don’t carry the distortion of pain into this next stage of your life: release it at the threshold. The pain may be there, sure, but allow it to be carried by your willingness to see beyond the current predicaments and infuriating challenges to common sense.”
Together, these cards can break down the borders between us, revealing that we have more in common with each other than ruling classes would have us believe. Awakening, Judgement and Liberation make another path more accessible – the one where we allow ourselves to imagine a future where we can collectively figure out how to communicate with each other without dropping bombs, literally or metaphorically. And then, take action to manifest that imagined future in smaller and larger ways, depending on how we are able to show up for ourselves and each other. Small does not mean insignificant and large does not mean better. Both are necessary. See how you can show up in a way that makes sense to you in this moment.
