Tarot Reading for the Collective ~ July 2018: Relative Tarot & Pentimento Tarot

Dear Collective,

This month I thought I would use two tarot decks for this reading, because, why not? The tarot decks that I chose are Pentimento Tarot by Joanna Powell Colbert and the Relative Tarot by Carrie Paris. Pentimento Tarot is a Major Arcana-only deck (so 22 cards), and the Relative Tarot is a Major Arcana and Court Card- only deck. Both overlay traditional Rider Waite Smith imagery with photographs. I love both of these decks!

The questions for July are:

What will help us love with authenticity?

How can we learn to trust the wisdom in our bodies?

How can we learn to look at what needs to be seen?

What will tilt our perception enough to make the changes our hearts need to enact?

Let’s begin!

1. What will help us love with authenticity?

I will help you love authentically by putting your mind and heart in direct contact with each other. Why does one have to rule over the other? Your mind and your heart can be so helpful, yet they are both capable of dishonesty. Who is speaking – the mind or the heart? Each says it is the other that lies, and we are mere humans who are unenlightened – how can you expect to know for sure what is real and what is not? When you get closer to figuring out love – how can you do it with authenticity?

A Queen of Swords-style assistance will show you what is real, what makes sense, what drives out clouded thinking, and what really remains when you cut away all the starry-eyed fantasies. Let me show you authentic love by helping you make clearer choices about how you spend your time and who you spend it with. Don’t be bedazzled by your past or future imaginings or what you THOUGHT was real. Look at your present, how do you feel right now, and love from that space.

2. How can we learn to trust the wisdom in our bodies?

The World [Pentimento Tarot]

Remember how you moved as a child, before you were told to tone down/dress appropriately/restrict your relationship with life. Remember how you felt your emotions and reacted to them but then allowed them to pass rapidly. Your body know what it feels, without the mind ever needing to have commentary on what that is. Of course, the mind WILL give its commentary, but it is the body that holds the wisdom.

Sharpen your mind as you can, but let the body inform you of what you are sensing right now. How can you trust this bodily wisdom? By testing it out! By not letting cynics sway you into dismissing your gut instinct. By going beyond simply remembering how you once moved, and seeing if you can still move in that way – however your current body allows. Trust that bodily wisdom by knowing that you can make better decisions when you are present with whatever it is you are feeling.

3. How can we learn to look at what needs to be seen?

Look at what is useful and look at what inspires you to be intelligent! Look at the ways in which you can create a new story in life that doesn’t need to destroy lives in order to work. Learn how to do this by noticing when you feel a fire burn within. Not the fire of unregulated, all-consuming anger, but rather, the burn of discomfort that tells you something is amiss – something is being hidden – abuses are being carried out and my goodness is there a need for creative action that forces those weak-minded actions to be visible and held accountable.

I will help you look at what you can do. I will stand here, on your doorstop every day, ready for action and ready to help you get beyond the initial inertia. I’ll smile at you until you must look at me and what I point out to you.

4. What will tilt our perception enough to make the changes our hearts need to enact?

Death [Pentimento Tarot]

Well, I’m quite the perception tilt, aren’t I? Who can honestly say they know me, without a belief system getting in the way? We can have our understandings that might seem incredibly real and certain, and then there is that edge that creates the question, ‘but what if…?’

I tilt your perception by bringing you into this moment. This is the sum of what you have lost right now:  this person – this animal – this object – this thing; and this is also the sum of what knowledge you have gained through this loss.

I will help you enact the changes your heart persuades you to carry out by keeping you clear of the distractions and of anything that isn’t in line with your integrity and your deep curiosity. Superficial enquiries need not apply – come to me with the pulse of your heart – walking towards me with that certain uncertainty and knowing me is knowing yourself. How can you not start the process towards lasting change once you have caught me looking at you?

[Interested in different perceptions around Death? The Death Letter Project is a project by local Sydney photographer Tina Fiveash, who asked 50 Australians the questions, ‘What is death?’, ‘What happens when we die?’ and published their responses as well as photos of the letter writers. I have greatly enjoyed reading through these letters, and I am included in the series (letter number 44). You can check it out here. I highly recommend perusing this beautiful and important project.]
