Tarot Reading for the Collective ~ July 2015

This week I was contemplating which tarot deck to use, and my goodness I do have rather a lot of choice with about 60 sets of tarot cards in my ever-growing collection. But instead of moving towards one of my cherished favourites or a new tarot deck I want to get to know better, I felt drawn to a deck of playing cards instead! Namely, The Key to the Kingdom by Tony Meeuwissen.

A quirky deck with plenty of tattooable imagery (if you are so inclined), their beautiful revealings make me smile. So here we have The Key to the Kingdom and a tarot/playing card reading for the Collective.

In a playing card deck we find ourselves without our usual suits of Pentacles, Cups, Wands and Swords. We have no major arcana either. We have instead Diamonds, Hearts, Clubs and Spades.

And what has turned up in abundance for this reading? Spades! They’re all spades! Aside from the Queen of Diamonds, standing there alone, amongst all the spades. How’s that for probability? I gave this deck a jolly good shuffling too. But of course we have spades in abundance. Spades are very useful. They can dig us out of holes and provides us with sharp wisdom with a roundy bottom to help the sharp bits seem more loving.

But I digress. I shall let the cards introduce themselves instead.

Ermm. Hello! (hello…hello…hello…hello…)

5 of Spades - The Keys to the Kingdom by Tony Meeuwissen

Hello 5 of Spades! Hello dear five fishies! Are you keen to share some wisdom with us all?

Well, firstly, we just want to say that it’s kind of full on having you all stare at us. Secondly, we were hoping for orange stripes, so right now we’re learning how to deal with disappointment. Thirdly, we hope you Collective learn how to move quickly and swiftly away from imminent danger. Or imminent long, meandering, boring conversations that suck you dry and leave you parched and in need of a heart-to-heart talk with a being who is ready to be real and honest with you. We support open-hearted honesty! We denounce fish eaters!

Thank you 5 of Spades. Queen of Diamonds, welcome! You are the only Diamond amongst us, indeed the only one present who is not a Spade. How does that feel?

Well I am in my element of course. I am here to help you all be more visible, and I do that by unashamedly bringing my most delectable treats to the (chess) board (don’t you just want to nibble that chocolate cat’s ear?!). And while you are in sweeties heaven, I spin around (on the spot) posing magnificently for you all.

So I suppose we could say that my special wisdom for you all is to be polite when you need to so as to get your foot in the door, and once you’re there, don’t play safe by worrying what people will think of you – wow them and don’t hold yourself back!

And then come to me when you’re all ready to be a bit more intense again.

Queen of Spades - The Keys to the Kingdom by Tony Meeuwissen

Welcome Queen of Spades.

You may call me Queen Dodo. Or Queen Dada if you prefer.

Sure Queen Dada. Do you have something you would like to share with us?

Look sideways at the gate to help the butterfly through.

…If we refer to you as Queen Dodo will you make more sense?

Yes! I think it is time for the Collective to cast away all fears of being misunderstood and gather together your most quirky attributes and share them with the world.

You may wonder why you have ever craved acceptance from those who are rather boring. And you may wonder why you have looked for acceptance from anyone other than yourselves.

I have not yet mastered the meaning of life but by golly I am content to navigate these spidery times and let the mysteries slowly reveal themselves bit by glorious bit. So that I might live in a time where Queen Dada might be understood.

Now go forth to the 6 of Spades, who you might notice is already present in the columns surrounding me.

Hello 6 of Spades. To whom are we speaking: the wyrm or the skull?

6 of Spades - The Keys to the Kingdom by Tony Meeuwissen

You are addressing us both. We merged while listening to the words of Queen Dada.

How might you help us this month?

You want help? From us? A wyrm and a skull?

Well… you came when I called… I figured you must have something you would like to share…

Of course we have something to share! First of all, don’t be afraid of empty spaces. Learn how to lean into them and investigate your hidden parts. Hidden parts are fun! They look scary at first but then as you investigate them, anxiety tends to fall away because anxiety is usually related to the unknown things rather than the investigated things. What will happen? Eek! Oooh lookee here, it’s just some old thought patterns… and I’ve grown since the last time I encountered these thoughts… so chances are I have new ways of approaching things!

Oh! And can you please tell the 5 of Spades that I am happy to lend them some orange for their stripes?

I will let them know, thank you. Now, 9 of Spades I believe it is time we conversed with you.

9 of Spades - The Keys to the Kingdom by Tony Meeuwissen

Grow grow grow grow. Grow grow stop! What! What?

Err, hello 9 of Spades. Um, I see you are emerging from some wood?

We are doing more than just that. We are growing a new ecosystem to support life on another planet.

Really?

Not sure actually. But I think we can muster up a useful message for the Collective between the 9 of us. Something about…knowing when to grow, knowing when to pause, knowing when to let some dreams shoot forward and when to let some grow more quietly and slowly in the background. Something about…trying new ways of doing things and being fearless and bold in your approach. Something about…standing still and pretending you’re boring when the boring people walk by. And then start being interesting again when they pass out of sight. So that the boring people don’t come and wreck the party.

Is it time for me now?

8 of Spades - The Keys to the Kingdom by Tony Meeuwissen

8 of Spades? Go for it!

Kapow! Haha! Oh gosh. Dear Psychic Sarah. Did you really think you could write a tarot reading using this deck and not lose some marbles? We are so strange! You must BECOME strange to dance with us. Yip yip. [Author’s note: I am feeling quite sane thank you. I am just doing my best to represent the voices of the peculiar archetypes as they present themselves to me.]

Well, let’s get down to business. I am very busy creating things, clearly, and my dear Collective, I want you all to get busy creating things too! Throw your ideas around in your head and put them down on paper and talk to your friends about them (the ones who are the most supportive) and spin the magic dance and always come back to your ideas for World Loveliness when you get down.

I think if you all connect with even one beautiful idea this month then there’s bound to be enough of a chain reaction to help the universe dismantle some of the inauthentic and stern society-structures and let some more of the magic leak in. Go well!

Final Note: Every time I went to write Spades in this reading I wrote Spaces. We have a lot of spades as well as spaces to navigate this month. Make of that what you will.
