Tarot Reading for the Collective ~ September © 2013 Sarah Barry

The Hermit - Tarot of the Cloisters by Michelle Leavitt

The Hermit reaches out to us all with his lantern, holding it up so we can see our lives from a unique perspective.  A perspective that will encourage us to think more clearly, the cobwebs to be cleared and to help us engage with our surrounding communities more authentically and compassionately.

Nice thought, hey? I did actually try to have a conversation with The Hermit earlier, but he just kept on shining the light of his lantern in my face, wordlessly. It seems there is still more for us to learn before we can make some thorough progress in this mysterious life.  Let us hope that the Queen of Swords can help us in that department.

Good evening Queen of Swords.

Queen of Swords - Tarot of the Cloisters by Michelle Leavitt

Good evening Collective. Did you manage to decipher what The Hermit was trying to share with you this time around?

In part, perhaps, not sure really. I think there might have been some wisdom that was transmitted.

We shall see. Well, Collective, I suppose you want me to say something a bit more obvious and tangible?

That would be great, thank you Queen of Swords.

Well, luckily articulation is my forte. I speak clearly from my heart and from my head, simultaneously. I say things that can cut through people’s resistances, but I never do this with nastiness or with the intention to shame. I want to enlighten the Collective but if someone is going to be vilified in the process that is not the Queen of Swords speaking.

So my dear Collective, if you are wanting to share scary honesty and harsh beauty this month, do watch your tongue to make sure you are not name-calling, and do watch your thoughts to make sure that you are not secretly wanting to harm someone, or wanting to push away your own feelings of helplessness for a moment whilst you vilify another.

I was trying to think of a real life person who had said something recently that could sum up the way I would speak in the world, and I think Miki Kashtan, a teacher of Nonviolent Communication, was honouring the Queen of Swords when she said:

“I want the well-being of the person in power even when I want to oust them from power, even when I want to do everything in my power to stop them from doing further harm… because unless I am able to see the person in power as fully human, brother or sister to me, and unless I can truly wish for their well-being, I don’t believe I have fully liberated myself…”

And with her words, I deliver you to The Magician.

The Magician - Tarot of the Cloisters by Michelle LeavittHmmm. I am not used to having someone so compelling enter the room just before me. Usually when I walk in everyone is amazed and excited to see me. I think I’ve just been usurped by the Queen of Swords, and the reading has only just begun!

Never fear, O Magician, this reading is not a competition between the archetypes! You are all working together to help us, the Collective, figure out how to best keep our heads this month, and beyond.

Thank you for the reminder dear Collective ones. I’m not sure where my head went just then, it was quite uncharacteristic of me to doubt myself. However, I am happy that I can appreciate my fellow archetype, the Queen of Swords. Perhaps I am becoming more generous and compassionate as I grow older?

Perhaps, Magician. Now, would you like to share your best insights for us this month?

Best eh? Well, I guess I should begin with a general reminder for everyone to have an awareness of what they are good at doing. Once you get clear about what you are good at, to make sure you actually enjoy doing it. And finally, once you’re happy to be doing what you’re good at doing, make sure you are not harming anyone.

That final step is one that is very important and is one that so often people get confused about. We might see someone behaving differently to ourselves and we might proclaim that that person is harming us, when all that person is doing is merely existing, and going about their lives in a relatively harmonious way. We must make sure that we are not allowing old conditionings and prejudices to get in the way of what we perceive.

By harmful I mean verbally, emotionally or physically harming another through strong words or thoughts or actions. As The Magician, I want to help people express themselves in their full brightness, to share their skills in a beautiful way that inspires and reminds us all to keep on growing as best we can. Just don’t forget to throw a bit of fabulousness in.

Thank you Magician. I can see we have now caught up with the Eight of Pentacles. Hey there Eight, what will you remind us about this month?

8 of Pentacles - Tarot of the Cloisters by Michelle LeavittStart again. Start again with all your creativity, imagination and verve. When you start a new path there will always be doubters and there will always be people who stare at you fearfully as you courageously walk out further along the path than they ever knew possible. With the Eight of Pentacles, more of the Collective can help inspire others to keep waking up and learning more about their potential.

I am fun and encouraging to be around!

I love you Eight.

Oh! Strength! I love you too! Will you carry on from where I left off?

Strength - Tarot of the Cloisters by Michelle LeavittSure, Eight. I think we all just need to sit still for a bit, and try and quieten down any parts of ourselves that are struggling with all the new information that this month is bringing. I think we’re all a little tired, and we do need to find ways to recharge.

So, with Strength, my influence will draw you back into your inner wisdom so profoundly, that you will realise that nothing or no one external to you can change the way you feel about yourself.

I inspire within you the capacity to think freely and to remember the parts of yourselves that are clear and untroubled and strong. Remember those parts and use them wisely as you move throughout the rest of this month, and beyond.

3 of Vessels (Cups) - Tarot of the Cloisters by Michelle Leavitt

Shall I take us to the end of the reading?

Yes please, Three of Vessels (Cups), if you would be so kind.

I really want to celebrate the Collective’s capacity to band together and try and understand each other, even when your opinions are in stark contrast.

Have we really been doing that?

Well… sometimes, okay, not always… true, hmmm… actually yes just keep trying for that one.

Perhaps this is something you can help us with this month Three of Vessels?

Sure, I’d love to help you guys with that. Just remember, with me around, you are more likely to be connected to your community, and have a strong desire to create powerful and effective change in this world that can help everyone grow and prosper. Be well, dear Collective, and don’t forget to have cups of tea and chats, we will all be better off for this simple and beautiful way to brainstorm and be happy. 🙂
