Tarot Reading for the Collective ~ March 2019: Next World Tarot

Dear Collective,

This month we return to the Next World Tarot by Cristy C. Road – the most inclusive tarot deck I’ve come across! While so many other tarot decks feature white, cisgender, heteronormative, gender-binary and ableist imagery, Next World Tarot centres QPOC (Queer People Of Colour) and it is a deck that I feel excited and inspired to use, every single time I pick it up. I am so grateful to Cristy C. Road for bringing this tarot deck into the world.

This month’s questions are:

How can we expand our vision?

How can we rise above conditioned thoughts and actions?

How can we keep going even when we are so tired?

How can we deal with the doubting mind?

Let’s begin!

How can we expand our vision?

The Page of Cups

Version 2

Let’s expand our vision by slowing down and noticing that the stories fed to us by corporate media rarely speak to our intelligence, but more to our fears and delusions.

If we give ourselves some space from constantly trying to keep up with rigid, limiting and prejudiced structures, we allow ourselves a chance to breathe a little bit more freely. From there we can move past the stage of merely dreaming and establish methods of connecting with each other that centre resilience and compassion. By challenging conventional belief systems, hypocritical double standards and the conditioned prejudices that we have been exposed to since birth, we can be more at peace with our quirky ways of existing.

And remember, sometimes expanding our vision can be as simple as sitting quietly with people and/or animals we trust.

How can we rise above conditioned thoughts and actions?

Temperance - Next World Tarot by Cristy C. Road

Rise above conditioned thoughts and actions by making a firm commitment to place plenty of space between your mind and the situations that distract you from your main purpose (remembering that your main purpose right now might be simple as getting to work safely, or being kind to a loved one). A commitment to act in ways that encourage balance and harmony can override the structured belief systems we have grown up with, belief systems that never centred intelligent and intuitive self care. Find the spaces where there is at least some short respite in amongst all the noise of life.

How can we keep going even when we are so tired?

The Chariot

The Chariot - Next World Tarot by Cristy C. Road

Persevering when you’re exhausted is hard, yes, but maybe sometimes you just need to mix up your form of transport. See how I have abandoned the physical, material chariot and instead I’m allowing my own body to get me to where I need to be? At my own pace, in my own way. It is possible for us to keep on going when we recognise our ever-changing needs according to what’s happening within our bodies and our minds. We won’t always be able to do the things we want to do, or feel sufficiently energised to take on the world. However, with a bit of style and grace we can work with what we’ve got in a way that allows our movement to be energising.

[note from Psychic Sarah: many years ago I was considering riding my bicycle to a destination that would take one and a half hours of pedal power to get to. I was hesitant, but my decision to wear a tutu on the trip helped me commit to ride. Whenever my legs started to tire, the fabulous sight of my own tutu lifted my spirits and I kept on pedalling!]

How can we deal with the doubting mind?

The Knight of Swords

Version 2

You can deal with the doubting mind by cutting through its crap! Really, are these doubts of yours actually doing anything useful? Be impatient with self-doubting thoughts, roll your eyes at their melodramatic ways and seek to find other methods of dealing with times of uncertainty. When your mind starts multiplying doubts that bind your creativity, brandishing a metaphorical sword enables you to see how your own mind is tricking you. Refuel yourself where possible (nourishing food/water/meditation/sitting in or under a tree/…) and be on the alert for those mental shifts that disconnect you from your natural strengths and awarenesses. Your wisdom will naturally start to rise above those pesky doubts, so that you are more able to feel your incredible resilience.
