Tarot Reading for the Collective ~ February © 2014 Sarah Barry

This Tarot Reading for the Collective is brought to you by TWO tarot decks. I was going to just use a quirky deck I have called Tarot 22 by Toshiko Tuchihashi, which is made up of only the Major Arcana (22 cards). Then I thought I could use the Minor Arcana from another quirky (in a vastly different way!) tarot deck I have – Baroque Bohemian Cats’ Tarot by Alex Ukolov & Karen Mahony. So: here we have a Collective reading with some amusing visuals to help us through the month.

4 of Wands - Bohemian Cats' Tarot by Alex Ukolov & Karen Mahony

First up is the Four of Wands. Ah, Four of Wands, how resplendent you look as you wondrously gaze upon – what? What is it you are gazing at?

That’s for me to know and for you to find out.

Hmmm. [sigh.] Very well. Is it a mouse?

No, silly! Just because we are cats doesn’t mean you can just stereotype us like that. This is after all a tarot reading for the Collective, not just for cats. And not all cats like mice anyway.

If you must know, we are gazing upon Stability, and noticing how orderly and inviting it seems to be a part of the ‘Stability Club’.

We know it looks like we are supposed to want to be a part of it, but we are also uncertain. Who came up with this idea of what stability means anyway? Who are they and what is their life experience? What are their motivations and can they be trusted?

I think not. Not at this stage of the month anyway, Four of Wands. Allow me to take over from here and assist the Collective through the process of moving away from relying upon others, and help them learn to trust themselves.

The Hermit - Tarot 22 by Toshiko Tuchihashi

Auspicious greetings to you, oh Hermit.

Collective, welcome. Will you join me for a walk? I have some medicinal herbs to collect by the light of the shiny moon.

Of course.

Well, Collective, I’ve been getting reports that quite a few of you are ignoring the importance of taking responsibility for yourselves and are instead blaming your mistakes and misfortunes on other people. I also hear you are harming others to the point of dropping bombs that maim and kill, and also bullying people in your communities, among many other atrocities.

Oh well, yes, but we’ve been doing all that for some time now.

Well, I don’t like it Collective. And if you still want some of the more meditative tarot archetypes like myself (and The High Priestess and The Star, to name a few) to be present in the human psyche for the long-term future, I think you are going to need to visit me a bit more, don’t you think?

Well, for sure Hermit. We know we need help. Well, I hope we know. What would we learn through visiting you?

How to be more at peace with your lives, your senses, your bodies. How to sit and observe without projecting fantasies onto reality. How to take a breath before you lose the plot (and hopefully prevent or at least soften the plot-loss), and how to tell the difference between real information and biased information.

How to honour beauty in the world and to have reverence and respect for that beauty. Natural beauty is much more sustaining than the passionate desire for things that are ultimately highly conflicted with harmony and respect for all beings.

Thank you Hermit. We will do our best. Perhaps The World will also help us in our Collective endeavours to seek out clearer and more connected ways of being.

The World - Tarot 22 by Toshiko Tuchihashi

Wooheee, you betcha!

World, you have appeared to us in a somewhat different form!

I know! Usually I’m the lady human doing some naked dancing! Today I am the purple alien being with the red and blue polkadotted onesie – this is awesome!

Ha! Okayyy, well, hmm. You are a bit more revved up than we were anticipating…

The Four of Wands made me a double espresso while you were yarning with the Hermit.

Righto. Er, well, do you have some insights to share with us, World?

Well, see, I’m holding these two sticks right? Maybe I used them to climb a mountain. Yeah, I climbed a mountain.

And around me are some bright ‘n’ freaky looking figures that probably symbolise something really powerful but i can’t remember what now coz I think I should have ordered a decaf.

BUT, I’m having fun and feeling like dancing and maybe the Collective could use a good dance?

Not everyone likes to dance though, World.

Really?

I have heard of this, some people don’t like to dance.

Maybe they could just enjoy watching some people dancing.

What’s the World coming to?! Don’t dose up the other archetypes on caffeine, Four of Wands!

Hey! Didn’t you hear what the Hermit said? Take responsibility for your own actions. The World can take care of itself!

8 of Wands - Bohemian Cats' Tarot by Alex Ukolov & Karen Mahony

Perhaps the way the World is behaving could be symbolic of the way the Collective’s world is right now? That there are member’s of the Collective who are souped up and not thinking in a practical as well as intuitive way?

Good point Eight of Wands. Could you please expand upon that?

I would love to. I like creating opportunities in a variety of different ways. First of all, I will do the necessary, practical things that can potentially create change. Then I will work hard at staying with my integrity so that the opportunities can find me.

Lastly, I will spin around, catch a dragonfly, whisper my love of all things to the wind and voila! We have an abundance of amazing opportunities to select from.

EAT THE DRAGONFLY!

Look, can someone please give the World some water and a quiet room to sit in until it has recovered?

I will take The World to my cave for a while.

Thank you Hermit. So… next up is, Death! Ah.

Death - Tarot 22 by Toshiko Tuchihashi

Yes. It’s me. Are you pleased?

Some of the Collective will be pleased, some will be less pleased. Do tell us though Death, what is it you can teach us this month.

I am great for helping let go. Some say my letting go techniques are a bit extreme – I mean, I let go to the extent that everything drops away but my bare bones.

But the Collective needn’t do that. I think there could be a bit more talking about difficult subjects that ask people to confront their fears.

Also, I can help with pointing out old habit patterns that are getting in the way of amazingness, and help folk be less caught up in said patterns. So much more can be done when we are not beating ourselves up.

Too right! Is it time for us yet?

There’s more than one archetype here to take us to the end of the reading?

Yes! We couldn’t decide who came first, so we are joining together for the final dance-off!

The Fool - Tarot 22 by Toshiko Tuchihashi

2 of Wands - Bohemian Cats' Tarot by Alex Ukolov & Karen Mahony

Well then, welcome to The Fool and the Two of Wands! Please share with us your poetic wisdom.

The Fool brings intuition

And Two of Wands brings vision,

Fools jump where the heart says to go

And the Wands study the stars and then let go,

The Fool waves goodbye when it is really saying hello

And Two of Wands will never listen to the response ‘because I said so’.

We both speak to your heart and your creations and your losses

And we make sure you are safe when you are surrounded by tossers.

Goodnight dear ones.

Goodnight.
